News of the year: Dbanj is dating Genevieve Nnaji!
By Habeeb
No one saw this coming, not even me. Music Crooner, Dapo Oyebanjo a.k.a Dbanj in an exclusive chat with Encomium's Stella Dimiko Korkus revealed his true feelings for Nollywood Mega Star, Genevieve Nnaji and how he feels for her and doesnt want to hide his feelings anymore as he would love to take her out and not mind who sees them together. Here is that interview.
You were spotted secretly and publicly at different places with Genevieve Nnaji and we heard you both are in some kind of relationship. Is this true?
D’Banj “Yes, yes, yes. We have been trying to keep this quiet but yes, I am dating Genevieve Nnaji.
Okay. We heard you recently featured her in your music video, ‘Fall in Love.’ Is this a publicity stunt or is it a real relationship?
D’Banj “This is all so funny because beyond the personal feelings I have for Genevieve, on the business side, she is the only one who represented what we were looking for to shoot the video. She represents Africa. She represents the African Queen. She is the biggest and was even profiled on the Oprah Winfrey Show. So it was a mixed feeling for me. She was the perfect person to use for the song ‘Fall in Love’. She even was my perception of someone you would want to fall in love with and have in your life. I believe the average African man wherever you are, if you want to think of whom you would want to fall in love with, if you close your eyes and take a deep breath, it’s Genevieve that will come to mind. So business-wise, she represented everything we were looking for to make the video.”
You must have been looking at her whilst you were singing. Were you really telling her your feelings?
D’Banj “I am in love with Genevieve. It’s been long I felt this way about anyone. I don’t know what other words to use to qualify my feelings. But when you see the video, you will know that it’s not just a video, it was me talking to my girl for real.

So is this a marriage-headed relationship?
D’Banj “Like I just told you, Genevieve is my girlfriend. In fact, I don’t like using that word girlfriend. She’s my baby, she’s my every thing and I love her. We are both very mature and also very private. We would like to take it one step at a time right now and would appreciate if people will respect our need for privacy at this time.
When the news of this relationship hits the streets, we are sure you both know what will happen next. Are you ready for this?
D’Banj “Well, what can I say? Like I said, Genevieve is the biggest African star that I know and I am in the public eye, so it is to be expected. But I personally do not care about any news that wants to come out. I am proud of whom I am with. When I met Genevieve I knew what I wanted and I went after it and I am still with what I want and she’s the one I want. Right now the only woman in my life is Genevieve and she knows that. We want to be together and we don’t want to hide it any longer. I want to be able to take her out, walk into anywhere with her and not have to hide. I’ve found my kokolet, my woman. Please pray for us.”
What can i say? I never would have predicted them together but he seems happy to be with her. He sounds like a man who has found what he has been looking for. I am so happy for them if this is really what they want.

Omawumi set to release album "Wonder Woman"
By Habeeb
We loved every performances of hers during Idols West Africa in 2007, we were marvelled by her diversity, talent and uniqueness. We clamoured for more and watched in excitement and when she didnt win, we were disappointed but Omawumi Megbele has gone further from just being the 1st runner up of the Idols West Africa competetion to being a force to reckon with in the nigerian music industry. After Idols, she did her first single "In the Music" which blew people off and with the video, the fan base sky rocketed. She also went on to win two headies at the Hip Hop World Awards (for Next rated and Best female Vocal), she got nominated at the Sound City Music Video Awards and presently Nigerian Music Video Awards for Best Choreography, VOTE HERE FOR OMAWUMIWe all awaited the album but she just wasnt in a hurry, this sweet voiced diva made it clear that her album whenever it dropped was going to be worth the wait and we planned to savour each moment, and its time to wait no more. Omawumi Megbele shortly after releasing a banging video of her single, "Today na today" which is also making waves at the moment is set to release her album "Wonder Woman" which is one of the most anticipated albums in naija and i see it hitting insane numbers in the market.
The release is slated for 2nd week in November and the album cover is just breathtaking, surely a glimpse from what to expect from the album. Lagos, Nigeria, Africa, brace up for the biggest thing to hit you. The diva has emerged.

Genevieve on Oprah!
By Habeeb
This is indeed good news!
Nollywood mega-star, Genevieve Nnaji was just featured on "Oprah Winfrey" show on an episode "meet the most famous people in the world" and she was listed as the most famous actress in africa, montage of photos and a video clip (from the movie ‘Bursting Out’) featuring Genevieve was shown as her various career highlights were mentioned. Genny who was referred to as the “Julia Roberts of Africa” on the show was chosen due to her wide appeal across the African continent and all over the world. and i hear Oprah even pronounced her name well. Other stars from around the world including Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan (India) and Lu Yu (China) were also featured on the show.
This may not translate to money but i must commend Genny on this feet, its big deal,Oprah??? This is just the beginning, am proud of her and who says nigerians can do nothing but fraud and dupe unsuspecting rich muguls,Genevieve has paid her dues and deserves every inch of recognition that she gets. I know the media would soon go agog with this as this even seems to be the word on everyone's lips, getting a mention from Oprah at all is major and who else deserves that platform if not the delectable and brilliant Miss Nnaji.

Did PSQUARE PULL A KANYE?
By HabeebWritten by Tosyn Bucknor

I would like to start this article by blaming all those who had a problem with my car being full. It was because of them i emptied and cleaned it out. It was because of them i had nothing to wear as a i left Ikeja on Thursday the 24th. And it was therefore because of them that i missed the Arthur Guiness show!
Of course, funny news spreads faster than good news, and it also grabs the headlines. This article is therefore not about how fantastic M.I’s performance was, nor is it about Wande Coal putting on a good show. It is not even about the excellent work done with the stage and lighting. This article is more about the he said they said aftermath! The gist we gathered is that... The show did not start as scheduled as so, things got backed up. But some things had to go on as scheduled because the show was major and was being beamed live.
It was determined at some point that Sean Paul’s performance had to come up at a specific time since it was meant to be shown in other countries like Malaysia at that time. Some things then had to be axed, and unfortunately, the axe fell on Tu Face’s set! P Square did not appreciate this, and while they were performing one of the twins stopped the music and called the show, “...f**k*d” because they did not want Tu Face to perform.
Then they threw their mics down (or into the crowd) and walked off. The host tried to introduce Sean Paul, but the crowd began throwing things on the stage demanding for Tu Face who had, together with the Okoye twins, left the building... literally! A few calls and conversations later, he came back, performed to wild applause, and the show went on.. sort of!
The aftermath however is that facebook, twitter, and Nigeria began buzzing about this, and the buzz was about the twins! Apart from wondering why they were taking paracetamol for another man’s headache, a la Kanye West, people have pointed out that once again, P Square has shown why artistes need a PR team. Others have defended them and said they did the right thing, saying it is time for home based artistes to be treated with the same level of respect international artistes are treated. And then there are those who maybe see both sides, but feel PSquare should not have disrespected their fans. For me, this is one of those situations where you have so much to say but you wonder if you should. I would say though that things are not always black and white, and rescheduling does not always mean disrespect!
In any case, i would rather not let funny news win TOO MUCh! Reports say it was a well attended show, with a beautiful stage, and that the performances were top notch!

When Stephanie Okereke premiered "Through the glass"
By Habeeb
By Habeeb Lawal
GISTS AND PICTURES FROM THE PREMIERE OF “STEPHANIE OKEREKE’S THROUGH THE GLASS”
Between being harrased by a really big muscle man and getting the evil eye from Fathia “don’t take my picture” Balogun, I managed to get gists and a few pictures at the premiere of Stephanie Okereke’s new movie “Through the Glass” this past Sunday.

First, I got my ticket to the event by entering and wining a contest on facebook. I was elated because I had heard so much about the film, and here I was going to the premiere for free, and a chance to attend an event that had a promise of being great.
The event was held at the Silverbird Galleria on Ahmadu Bello in Victoria Island, Lagos. Like I expected, the event was graced by many Nollywood celebrities like Chidi Mokeme, Eucharia Annunobi, Mona Lisa Chinda, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Ngozi Ezeonu, Tchidi Tchikere, Emem Isong and Other socialites like Grace Egbagbe, john Fashanu and Sammy Okposo.
With all these people in attendance, I started taking pictures immediately I got to the red carpet. I was only on my 5th or 6th shot when some gigantic looking man tapped me on the shoulder. He asked if I had a press pass, I said no but I had an invitation which I was holding. Imagine my shock, when this man physically moved out of the way. The worst thing was that there was a white man right in front of me who had the same colour invitation and doing the same thing but Mr. Hefty did not even go near him not to talk of asking him any questions. This is what we have to deal with in Nigeria. Our own people treating us like dirt but you have to learn to show tolerance or else you stand the risk of going bonkers.
Apart from the above incident, I can report that the red carpet event was colourful. The event proper did not start until 7pm although red carpet commenced at 4pm. When it finally kicked off, Patrick Doyle was the MC. He started by introducing celebs in the house and showed us clips of Stephanie during her ghastly motor accident years back and her healing process. This was indeed a touching moment, especially when she now came out to give a speech with two co-actors who flew all the way from Los Angeles to grace the occassion.

THROUGH THE GLASS is a romantic comedy that deals with issues of responsiblity, abuse, trust, betrayal and acceptance. It tells the story of Jeffery a promiscous and unserious lad who constanly gets reminded by his rich CEO father of how unreliable and inefficient he has been on being MD of the company and how he stands the risk of loosing his job if he doesnt show any form of seriousness or commitment to his job. He also has a strong bad repuation of being a womanizer and so when he finds a baby abandoned at his door steps, he is no least shocked and so were the welfare officers and police who strongly believe the baby could be his. Amidsts diificulties and tension, Jeffery with the help of his nigerian neigbour Ada( stephanie okereke) are able to take care of the kid and jeffery becomes fond of him but soon the junkie carefree mother of the child discovers how much money she could be making from the government by being a mother and decides to take her son back but Jeffery is ready to give it all he has got, he isnt ready to let go of that one person that has ever made him happy and content and doesnt criticize him.

All in all it was okay, simple story, no complicated plots, nothing extra-ordinary, even dialogue was as simple as it could get. My star of the movie was the little baby who cried at the right moment, stopped when it was needed and i couldnt just help but think it was all pre-planned towards the baby's moods. I didnt also understand why not even a scene throughout the movie could show us what the baby was called, they called him "baby" through the whole film, at least Jeffery who was getting so fond of him could have named him something, even the biological mother called him baby throughout, strange!.
And whats with everyone having sex when they are either supposed to be at duty or place of responsibility eg Police man when jeferry called to report found baby, Nicole, jef;s ex when he called to find out if she could help with the baby.....and even Jeffery in the office scene, not a bad idea, but sometimes i would rather a writer be more dynamic and with a unique sense of style when writing to make it come as real as possible, i almost did take some stuffs with a pinch of salt....I dont intend spoiling this by giving out too much since its unreleased...all in all it was a well attended event and not a bad start for a proffesional career, big ups to the NEXT PAGE PRODUCTIONS team.
