Open lettter to Jackie Appiah!

By Habeeb
Ghanian actress

Written by THICKMADAM on naijarules.

Dear Ms Jackie,
I read a harsh blog post about you a few weeks ago. And while I haven't shied away from harsh writeups in the past myself, I am also a firm a believer of drawing flies with honey. I'll get right to it.

Ms Jackie, if I were a fashion judge, and you were being tried in my court, I daresay you would be found guilty of all charges leveled against you. Indeed.

You may not know it: you are a very pretty girl, but you hide it behind the big wigs and weaves, (which in my opinion, do nothing for you, and I think you should loose them, or if you must use them, use less. Those braids you normally wear, the micros? those work best for you, I think), and the makeup.

Who does your makeup? You should fire them as they are very bad for you. I wish you could see what I see. It appears your make up person puts a mask on you!! I don't know why you hide behind that mask of make-up, but you might want to caution him/her to ease up on it. You are a very beautiful woman but you hide under that cake of powder, and foundation, and eyeshadow, and OH LORD - THE LIPSTICK/GLOSS!!! Please Jackie. Listen to me. IT IS TOO MUCH.
waaaaaaaaaaaaaait a minute. You do your makeup yourself, don't you?
Ms Jackie Appiah, you do do it yourself!!!
Resist and desist.
Retreat and surrender your face to a competent make-up artist.
If you cannot find a competent one (and I hope there are many where you are) then please, when you travel, ask around for a respected makeup person and beg them to teach you how to apply the make-up, and to show you which colours are right for you. You fall prey sometimes to using the wrong colour foundation and powders.
So, I beg you, find a competent make-up artist and let them show you what to use and how to use them.

Now Jackie, girl talk time. Just between us. You and me, no body else.
Those clothes? Too much.
The jewelry? Too much.
Those too, too, bright colours?
Those earrings, bangles, chokers, necklaces? Sometimes you go a little overboard and I can hardly hear your character because i'm distracted by those loud screaming colours.

Have mercy Jackie, temper fashion with mercy please!

I only want to watch a movie. Not end up in the hospital.

I'm not saying don't wear them, but you don't have to wear a pink shirt with a yellow skirt and pink headband, pink glasses, pink earrings, pink necklace, 10 pink bangles, pink wrist watch, pink leggings under the skirt, and pink shoes.
Jackie, does it seem right to you? DOES IT?!!!

Jackie, do not vex me please. This is just a friendly nudge, if you don't harken to this nudge, there will be trouble.

Now, I want to believe that you don't know any better, so I'm begging you now, do a research and find reputable establishment that caters to dressing artists, you need them pronto.

I have some questions that bug me each time I see a Nigerian or Ghanaian movie where the female characters always put on an unscripted, uncalled for, fashion show throughout the entire movie.
The questions are:
Who dresses the actors?
Who do the clothes belong to?
Are they your own personal clothes?
Do you do any research into your characters? (Who they are? what they do?)
Do you, Jackie Appiah, believe that an actress should dress according to character?
When you play a lawyer, for instance, should your character not be dressed a little bit less ... provocatively as you did in "Her Excellency"?
Really Jackie, you must step up your game, separate yoruself from the pack. And you are not going to do that with those clothes.

I have talked with a jury of your peers and they have found you guilty of:
1. HyperHairism - HyperHairism is the act of using too much weave and wearing big wigs, and using colour of hair that does not suit you
2. Hiding behind masks and layers of make-up, using too much make-up.
3. Assaulting the audience with too bright loud colours
4. Not dressing according to character

However, with the power vested in me as a judge, I have decided to commute your sentence on the following conditions:
1. Seek help for the condition known as HyperHairism from the proper channels
2. Ease up and tone down on the makeup and stop hiding behind the mask (again seeking help from reputable establishments)
3. This is the most important condition: GO AND FIND A GOOD STYLIST, ONE WHO IS WORTH THEIR SALT AND LET THEM DRESS YOU EACH TIME YOU GO ON SET. In fact, this court must approve of your selection before you employ them. (this court does not trust the judgement of the "costumiers" who have been dressing you for the movies)
4. Ensure that you dress according to character. if you role calls for a lawyer, this court does not want to see your bra, to quote a reputable member of NR "playing peek-a-boo"

I would be remiss if I did not ask you to take a few acting classes from a reputable place. Everbody needs classes to brush up on their skills.

You will be summoned back to this august court at an appropriate time for a review, and failure to comply with these conditions will result in a punishment that will be determined at the time.

(P.S. Who makes your traditional clothes? Can you slip me their contact info to Thickmadam@yahoo.com
They do a most wonderful job, you always look fabulous in your trads)

Adjourning Court,

Save actress, Caroline Johnson!

By Habeeb
Caroline's husband put this on facebook. It would be great to see people who are interested support this young lady who was once active and full of life.

TO SAVE CAROLINE JOHNSON FROM LEUKEMIA (CANCER OF THE BLOOD) - As written by Tony Johnson

We write with sincerity of heart, hoping that after you have read this letter, our good Lord will enable you give.We are a family of 5 (five) and have been married for over 7years; blessed with 3 Children, my wife is a Christian actress currently showing on air. (Heaven’s Gate as UJU) and I am an architect by profession.

We are members of THE POTTERS HOUSE CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP CHURCH – Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja Lagos, Nigeria. We had plans, hope and aspiration like any other good citizen of Nigeria would, until my wife was diagnosed to have leukemia, i.e. (cancer of the Blood) in October 2008, when she was 5months plus into the pregnancy of our 3rd Child (Oluwatise Johnson).

Initially the cancer was diagnosed at a Private Hospital at Surulere in Lagos, but we were referred to the Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Ikeja.

There she was on admission with the pregnancy but a dilemma to save my wife or baby was managed with multiple blood transfusion and treatment until her pregnancy was 7months 1 week when she suddenly fell into labour, but we thank God both mother and child survived on the 17/12/2008.

We thought all was over, since the doctors initially thought she had an acute anemia, but four weeks after delivery my wife’s immune system and blood level dropped to 9% PCV and fell almost into a shock, then further investigations were carried out including bone marrow test (aspiration and biopsy) and she also had multiple transfusions.

It was then the doctors gave us the news that my wife has ACUTE LYMPHOBIASTIC LEUKEMIA TYPE 1 also known as (CANCER of the BLOOD)

Since then, she has been through chemotherapy treatment and blood transfusions hoping that it would help contain the cancer cells. But now, further investigations and tests including bone marrow transplant were advised by the doctors at LASUTH to be done abroad in INDIA. (Please feel free to request backing documents).

A lot of our life-time savings have been spent on hospital admissions, treatments, drugs, investigations, tests and scan. We have currently spent over 2.5million naira but that’s just a phase of the treatment.
We are currently seeking your help to support in raising funds that will help us travel to India for further investigations and to carryout a bone marrow transplant summing to a total cost of $50, 000 (fifty thousand dollars). (Eight million five hundred thousand naira)Currently, we have a total collection of “One million one hundred thousand naira” from Families and friends.

I would sincerely appreciate your donation and support towards saving my wife from this dreaded disease ‘Cancer of the Blood’.

Unfortunately, our two older children Omolayo 7 and Imisioluwa 4 struggle to understand or accept what has suddenly happened to their very loving and argyle mother.(We both trust God for His perfected miracle, we feel led to take this step as time is running out as well as our personal resources. Please in whatsoever way you could help Caroline, please do.)

We have set us an account at GTB bank for those that would simply like to help out through funds transfer.

All donations in cheque may be written in favour of “save Caroline Johnson” GTB 206-179570-110May the good Lord stir your hearts to help and hold back the forces of sickness from you and your family. Amen.

GLO AMBASSADORS RULE THEIR WORLD IN JOZI

By Habeeb

By the time you read this, Nollywood Glo ambassadors would have settled down to their daily hectic routines after a recent trip to South Africa to shoot an advert for telecom giant GLOBACOM. The trip is being described as a gigantic success as 16 Nollywood/ Gollywood actors teamed up with 20 Ghanaian musicians to record the latest version of the GLO advert –WE GOT PEOPLE TALKING.

The Nigerian actors including Ramsey Nouah, Rita Dominic, Desmond Elliot, Uche Jombo, Chioma Chukwuka, Ini Edo, Mike Ezuronye, Mona Lisa Chinda, Funke Akindele, Nonso Diobi and Ali Nuhu arrived Johannesburg Sunday July 20, 2009. They were joined hours later by Kate Henshaw who travelled from London and Jim Iyke from the United States. The Ghanaian actors arrived a day later and included Van Vicker, Jackie Appiah and Nadia Buari.

The recording was a momentous occasion which even awed the stiff upper lipped British director of the advert. The director congratulated everyone personally and stated that if the Nigerian and Ghanaian football teams matched the performance and enthusiasm of the stars, it would spell doom for other countries in the 2010 world cup.
One must commend GLO for the combination of stars chosen as they have apparently shown maturity, motivation and camaraderie in their eagerness to dispatch their duties for the telecom giant.

Day Tonto Dike got drunk & naked at movie location

By Habeeb
Nollywood actress

Written by Alonge Michael

Charity, they say, begins at home. This saying, however, seems not to make any meaning to this sultry actress popularly known as Tonto Dike who came to limelight through a reality TV Show known as the Next Movie Star packaged by Sola Fajobi where she was a contestant.

Her impressive performance on that show shot her to stardom as she suddenly turned a celebrity overnight with lots of scripts on her lap by some producers in Nollywood and beyond. But like a diamond in the sky, Tonto's bad habit easily came to the open just as her career rises in the industry. Tonto Dike who has since been swimming in lots of controversies from her very first day in the industry like her romance with Don Jazzy and the illicit act with Rita Dominic.

This no longer interests you anyway. Fresh and hot is about her uncultured habit displayed a couple of weeks ago at a movie location some weeks ago. Tonto Dike, at a movie location, was alleged to have thrown decorum into the wind as she got herself drunk and went naked in presence of all and sundry. How she got high to that level to have gone gaga? Well, according to eye witness who spoke to us anonymously, the landlord of the edifice they used to shoot this movie, was said to have thrown a small party to appreciate the good work of the moviemakers whose effort to the growth of the industry has been commendable, and in the light of this, Tonto Dike and Ini Edo were said to have got so drunk to the extent that they couldn't control themselves any longer.

Ini Edo, we were reliably informed, sensing her dizziness and the level of effect the cognac was having on her, got up and went straight to her car and drove home leaving behind Mike Ezeruonye, Tonto Dike, other actresses and some crew. Meanwhile, information at our disposal also reveals that, the owner of the house actually threw the small soiree so as to 'lay' his hands on these Nollywood divas as soon as they're drunk- an arrangement he made with the producer and director (names withheld) of the movie.

Though, Tonto Dike's uncultured habit didn't totally thwart the man's effort as we gathered that some of the divas slept at the place that night. For Tonto Dike, she was said to have regretted her action when she was informed of her bad manners and how she went naked and got help from Mike Ezeruonye who helped her cover her beautiful naked body with his jacket.

This is just a tip of the iceberg as we're digging further on a tip we recently got on Tonto who is still in Amsterdam for the Festival. She messed up big time inside a club in Amsterdam with a young dude that she parades as her fiancé. Just keep your fingers crossed, story dey come.

written by Habeeb

Glo ambassador and Ghana's leading man, Joseph Van Vicker isnt doing badly at the moment. He recently with some other top stars travelled for a commercial shoot for glo and according to Van in a recent interview he granted, he intends taking a one month break from nollywood to go back to film school. Are you kidding? I kid you not, and i must commend him for taking this bold step. One month is just like one second away, go do your thing and come back a better person. To all those critics of Van, the guy has taken one or two from your comments, he intends polishing his acts. I am so looking forward to the new improved Van, life is all about getting better, isnt it?

Doggy affair Cossy Orjiako kicks, says: I even deserve an award

By Habeeb

in the news again
It is an incontrovertible fact that Cossy Orjiako remains, unashamedly, the bad girl of the Nigerian entertainment industry. Indeed, she is a bad mama jammer. Cossy, who since her emergence on the scene in the early 90s, has remained the reference point of all that is bad about womanhood, was in the news again last week.

The boobs flaunting diva was the cover of a local soft sell magazine, with her photograph in a very compromising position with a dog.
Since the magazine hit the newsstands, tongues have been wagging, most of them condemning her for the supposed act.

Most of the comments naturally are negative and you wonder how the queen of boobs is feeling too. Though she kept a straight face, making you believe she is not in any way bothered, the looks on her face tell it all - Cossy is human after all, and she may have started to suffer the pains of stardom.

With a bold face, Cossy maintained that she has no regrets because, according to her, the purported ‘doggy’ act was a mere shoot for a movie she did around 2001. And she went on to explain that she deserves an award for the movie role instead of the negative cries from the public. “I tell you, I believe that it was a really good movie that should have won me an award if it was done in Europe or the United States.”

Despite her ‘bold face’, Cossy says the recent publication smacks of malice targeted at defaming her character.
“As long as my parents, my fans and my friends are okay with what I do, I have no regrets”, she says.

Cossy recounted all the painful experiences and the price she has to pay for being a star in Nigeria. “About four days back, a journalist called me on phone; he said there is a picture of me with a dog that he has in his possession. He said I made love to a dog. I said Oh! This old story again. I said it was for an old film I did around 2001, that it was a make-belief. Even if I am offered one billion dollars to pose nude, I would think twice about it, not to talk of sleeping with a dog.”

Ojiakor continues: “He now told me that some blackmailers wanted to sell the pictures to him. But I told him that he does not need to pay the blackmailers, all he needs to do is to get the costumes and a dog, and I would pose the same way. He called me back and said he actually paid the blackmailers. That if I don’t want the pictures used, I should offset the money he paid. I said no, instead of paying him I would prefer to sleep with 10 dogs.”

Continuing, Cossy said this was not her first encounter with the gentleman. According to her, she had her first encounter with him about four years ago. “When I was acting, there was this man, a popular politician (names withheld). He used to be a politician; I don’t know what he does now. He told me to bring my international passport that some people were going to Dublin for something and he would take me along. That it was government-sponsored trip and I had to pay N20,000 which I did.”

At the time, Cossy was a simple and naïve village girl who had recently arrived Lagos from her base in the East after her National Youth Service programme. Eager for fame and stardom, Cossy said she was willing to do anything and receive nothing to get to the top. “When I started having all these movie roles, I was paid stipends like N3,000 or N5,000. So, I was happy when I started receiving about N30,000, N50,000 or more. So, I started telling my wakapass friends that the politician promised to take me to Dublin.”

Her friends, who obviously were more street-wise, laughed at her naivety and foolishness. “They said the man does that to every young artiste that he meets. If you now go into his office to check, then he would have time to do what he wants. Maybe he loves girls with big boobs, I don’t know for him. When I heard these stories, I was disgusted. I wanted my passport back but he wasn’t ready to give me. So, I called a lady who is also a journalist with a soft-sell magazine. I told her to write about what happened between me and the politician.”

“He kept telling me to come today and come tomorrow. When I told my wakapass friends what I did, they warned me to tread softly because the man was dangerous. I called the lady and asked her to forget about it. So, I said let me go and use my money to get another passport. But the girl still went ahead to speak with him about the matter”.

However, it seemed the interview worked, as she was contacted and asked to pick her passport. “He said that there was this journalist in front of him saying he collected money from me. I said yes, you collected money for Dublin visa. He was now asking me if I had money to give him. It wasn’t like he came out to say I like you. He came out to say that he wanted to sleep with me”.

And, the surprises continued: “I didn’t know that this journalist was recording everything. She now brought it out on the front page of the magazine. The embarrassment came in a big way and other people that he had been doing it to came out.”

Then the event that would lead to her latest travails was set in motion when the politician allegedly forwarded her passport to her through the journalist. “He now told me that he would give my passport to the journalist in question. That was the first time that I heard about his name. He called me up and told me that he was the one managing the politician. He said I should come for my passport but when I went there, he told me that he forgot it in the house.

“He told me that he was doing a show in Dublin and that I should pay N120,000 to take care of my accommodation or whatever. I told him that if a magazine wants to give me an award, it should be an all-expense paid trip. I cannot spend my money because I want to go and collect one stick abroad. I would rather invest the money here because that is how my brain works.”

Unfortunately for the boobs queen, her brains could never have imagined that a job she did in 2001 would suddenly resurrect to haunt her almost a decade later.

Jim Iyke beaten black and blue on location in Kastina State

By Habeeb
nollywood actor
Superstar Jim Iyke was in Kastina State on May 27th 2009 working on a project called "Day 27" . The Boy's Cot actor signed a 3-day contract to play the lead character in the movie directed by Charles Awurum and co-produced by Chidi Chidioke and Amaka Oleka.

The production quickly run into logistics problems which delayed the completion date of the shooting. Tied up in other commitments, Jim Iyke, who had been paid upfront N 600,000 for his 3-day work, was ready to leave the project after 3 days as contracted even though he hadn't completed his part of the contract. Panic set in and the production offered Iyke extra payment to stick with the project that would have fallen apart without his participation.

The Nollywood bad boy turned a deaf ear to their supplications and also refused to refund the money he already cashed in since he hadn't completed his part. He called a taxi and loaded his luggage in, ready to leave.
Amaka Olenka, who's married to a close advisor to the Kastina State governor, frantically called around, asking for help to prevent Iyke from leaving. The taxi was about to leave the premises when security officers stormed the location and stopped the taxi.

Jim Iyke was dragged out of the car and ordered to stay on the project. Tempers flared and a shouting match followed. The security officers roughed him up and the actor tried to defend himself. The officers ganged up against the actor and beat him black and blue. He was dragged back on the set and forced to complete his part at gunpoint.

His many attempts to contact his representatives and lawyers didn't produce the effect he expected and he remained on the location till he had completed his contractual part.
