Big Brother Africa 4- The revolution!!!

By Habeeb
It was a world-first when M-Net launched BIG BROTHER AFRICA on DStv, the first continental Big Brother to ever be screened. Since then BIG BROTHER AFRICA has become a reality TV sensation, the ultimate African super-series. Now a new season has been announced to begin in September. And the big news is that M-Net is now planning…

The biggest BIG BROTHER AFRICA ever.

BIG BROTHER AFRICA: THE REVOLUTION.

Prize money has been doubled and now stands at a phenomenal
USD 200 000, a breathtaking, life-altering ‘winner takes all’ fortune.

Newly introduced open castings in 18 cities will form the widest BIG BROTHER AFRICA search ever. Add 40 ‘all-seeing, all-knowing’ cameras, and 100 microphones and the new season has almost twice as much sight and sound capability as seasons 1, 2 or 3.

In addition, the old rules banning conspiracy in the house have been lifted and contestants will be free to forge alliances, discuss strategy openly and play the game in an entirely different way.

Even the voting is set to undergo a complete transformation. This year, audiences will be asked to vote for the housemates they want to see remain in the series rather than the housemates they want to see leave the house. So it’s all about being positive and keeping the great players in the game!

Top all this off with a dramatic revised format, bolder and more intense than anything audiences have seen so far. Do all this…and then you may get some idea of the sheer scale of production that’s been planned. And that’s just what the channel is willing to reveal right now.

“The team’s been working for months already, fine-tuning the latest edition, focusing on delivering the ultimate BIG BROTHER AFRICA. We’ve got quite a few secrets this time round, so you’ll have to wait and see what happens. We aren’t going to give away
all our surprises, but it’s definitely a new series and we mean new,” says
M-Net Africa Director Biola Adekanbi.

She goes on to say, “After three seasons, it was time for a fresh spin, time for bright ideas. This series is for the fans, to say thank you for supporting Big Brother since it began. So we’re giving them the best gift we can – a show to beat all the others.”

Following up on this vision, series producers Endemol SA have also been busy analyzing and observing other Big Brother successes around the world to develop innovative series elements and inject fresh new creativity into the production.

Once again, in BIG BROTHER AFRICA: THE REVOLUTION, would-be housemates from Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe are eligible to enter the series. This time round though, the search has been widened to include housemates from Mozambique, a dynamic and growing economy, and Ethiopia, which is home to the African Union.

To get the process started, M-Net has begun calling for entries for the new season. And, in line with its re-energized identity, the new BIG BROTHER AFRICA will include, for the first time, open castings sessions in the 14 participating countries.

Just take yourself, or a friend, or a family member that you think is perfect for the show, to a casting venue and get in line to see the selection team. Remember that castings will be held on a ‘first come/first served’ basis and to qualify for entry, you must be over the age of 21, be fluent in English, have a valid passport and be a citizen of any of the 14 participating countries.

Entrants who impress the selectors at the open castings will head into several follow-up selection rounds, before the final housemates are chosen. They’ll then head into a revolutionized BIG BROTHER AFRICA house on September 6.

91 entertaining days later, after chasing the largest reality series prize that M-Net has ever offered and almost certainly the largest reality TV cash prize on offer in Africa, one winner will be chosen by voting audiences at the series Finale on December 6.

Once again, all the action will be screened on DStv channel 198, 24/7 so audiences won’t miss a thing on the revitalized BIG BROTHER AFRICA.

For more information on BIG BROTHER AFRICA: THE REVOLUTION, to find out where to enter or to reconnect with other fans, log on to www.mnetafrica.com. And check in regularly because in the run-up to September 6, M-Net will have several major announcements regarding their biggest, boldest Big Brother yet.

Between Dakore Egbuson and Olumide Akande

By Habeeb
Dakore and her beau
Story curled from National life.

Sometimes,I pity Nigerian celebrities. To imagine that they cannot live their lives without being rumoured about! For whatever they do or fail to do, keke must ke. Na wa oh. I’m sure they must sometimes get tired of the perusing lens of the paparazzi and the probing questions of the reporters. Maybe that explains how Dakore Egbuson responded to questions about the absence of her boyfriend, Olumide Akande, at the just concluded Hip-Hop World Awards in Abuja.
Dakore, who stormed last year’s version of the awards with Olumide as her handbag, surprisingly came alone this year. Expectedly, this drew glances and murmuring. Soon, rumours started flying on why Olumide, Harry Akande’s son, refused to attend the award with Dakore. While some said he is outside the country on a business trip, others spoke of a quarrel between the two love-birds. There were so many versions of the same story anyway.
Trust pen-pushers, some reporters decided to ask her the question and pronto, they cornered her and fired the salvo at her. Apparently caught unawares, Dakore lashed back asking if she must go everywhere with Olumide. She asked the reporters what their business is with her relationship and capped it with a warning that she be left alone to live her life.
Uhmn! I saw it all happen. And unlike her detractors who giggled happily at her seeming discomfiture that day, I prayed silently to God to spare this beautiful lady who has brought so much laughter to many lips, a heart break this year. I know God will do what he has to do; it is just that I cannot stop worrying over what our sisters go through when a beautiful session like this ends abruptly. God, I still dey pray.

Koko mansion: forms now out!

By Habeeb
At last, young Nigerian girls that have been enthusiastic about getting into the famous Koko Mansion, now have the opportunity to do so. A statement signed by HiTV’s Public Relations Manager, Justin Akpovi-Esade, revealed that the road leading to Koko Mansion, a reality show, is now a click away as revealed by Morayo Aka-Bashorun, HiTV’s Business Development and Sales Manager.

All, the potential Kokolette needs to do, Aka-Bashorun said, is to “walk into any GTBank branch nationwide and pay the sum of N5, 000 (five thousand naira only) into the Koko Mansion Account. The Kokolette is advised to keep her teller number for registration. She

should thereafter key in theteller number and GTBank branch number on the kokomansion.tv website which will make her have access to the application forms.” She continued: “In case she is without her portrait, she has an option to either save her data or cancel the application until she's back with her portrait, which she downloads on her form. After application, she clicks on Submit and it is sent to the IBST officer.

GTBank sends us a daily list of confirmed payment, which we forward to IBST. Only applicants whose payment have been verified are contacted via email and advised to look out in the newspapers to know when we'll be coming to their neighbourhood for screening.

There will however be auditions in three zones, Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt cities,” Aka-Bashorun said. Meanwhile, barely a day after the release of the application procedures, hundreds of applications have been received. Aka-Bashorun reacts: “I am not surprised, when an idea is a brilliant one that will eventually impact positively on the society, people do not have a choice than to embrace it, that is Koko Mansion.” She cleared the air on some perceived notions about the show billed to start very soon. “I want to state that this show is not about looking for a wife for D’banj, no, it is about the search for an ideal African woman with the right qualities that a man is looking for.”

Koko Mansion revolves around the quest of 12 beautiful, talented girls that will live in a mansion for eight weeks, to become the ideal Kokolette (wife). The Mansion is situated in an undisclosed area in Lagos. Hip hop superstar D’banj will play a vital role in the oncoming show.

In these weeks, the young women will be groomed and tested in various activities in order to determine the one with the greatest Koko Virtues, worthy of being a wife –a Kokolette. Also, the Actors Guild of Nigeria is the first body to endorse the show being packaged by HiTV, Nigeria and Africa’s fastest growing satellite company. The Guild through its president, popular actor Ejike Asiegbu, has described Koko Mansion as the biggest thing that will happen in the entertainment horizon this year. The show is expected to begin in June.

Koko Mansion debuts in June!

By Habeeb
In the next couple of months, in fact, June 1, 2009, to be precise, the biggest television reality show in Africa, Koko Mansion, would begin with a big bang.
Billed to be aired exclusively on the wholly Nigerian satellite television, HiTV, Koko Mansion, a brainchild of top musician, D’banj with support from the honcho of HITV, Toyin Subair. It revolves around 12 beautiful and talented girls that will live in a mansion for eight weeks, with the eventual winner becoming the ideal Miss Kokolette.
The mansion, according to the organizers, is situated in an undisclosed area in
Lagos. D’banj is also expected to play a vital role in
the oncoming show. koko-mansion
While in the mansion the lucky 12, would be groomed and tested
in various activities in order to determine the one with the
greatest Koko Virtues, worthy of being a wife material –a
Kokolette.
Some of these Koko Virtues that would be determined by viewers, who are also the
ultimate judge in the intrigue-filled show, would be looking out for are: the ability of the Kokolette to cook sumptuous meals for D’banj and his friends, especially during impromptu visits; as well as the ability to furnish and maintain
the mansion. The Kokolette must also be industrious while,
being able to take care of the home front; her ability to be
respectful and courteous at all times would be put to test too.
The potential Kokolette must be able to emulate notable women in society and several others even as she shows the ability to impress D’banj, under all circumstances in order to win the public’s votes to be in the house.
Top celebrities such as super model Oluchi, Nollywood actress Funke Akindele (Jenifa) and celebrity hair stylist Bobbys would be invited to teach the ladies poise, biks girls’ mannerisms and how to maintain a fashionable
hair-style.

D’banj would among other things, help the public determine who the winner should be, based on their ability to please him. He is currently one of the most eligible
single young men in Nigeria and it is believed that the music star will be able to adequately represent most men in the limelight, who people assume would not appreciate a complete woman. So, with the help of his friends and
associates, the public will know the most tolerant, hospitable and respectful woman in the mansion. Meanwhile, D’banj’s entertaining character may also act as a catalyst that will bring out the girls’ true personalities.
The winner of the show will emerge the most sought after Kokolette and will have full access to D’banj during her reign.
The Kokolette according Morayo Aka-Bashorun, Business Development and Sales Manager, HiTV, must be a beautiful young lady, at least 18 years old; she must be smart and
intellectually savvy; she must also possess a fun talent.
She must be willing to explore and definitely be a WIFE material. She
must be well cultured with sound domestic training, and an absolute diva with the ability to get along with a diverse crowd. The Kokolette must be someone with good moral values, independent and ambitious aside being a creative person.
The Kokolette must also be an excellent host, a very creative person who understands and can get along with the celebrity lifestyle of the hip hop star. Most importantly,
she must be D’Banj’s number one fan. A video audition would
help the panel determine the 12 finalists.
Eviction starts in the second week of the show, where two ladies with
the least number of votes from the viewers will be ushered
out.
However, eviction is primarily done by the public and could be based on D’banj’s comments.
Interestingly, each week, among the three ladies up for eviction, it would be D’Banj’s prerogative to give Koko Mycine (immunity) to one of the girls. He can only use Koko Mycine once in the duration of the show. “The winner will among other benefits, be crowned Kokolette 1, get a Chris Aires Diamond ring, a brand new convertible car, feature in his next music video, You Don Make Me Fall In Love alongside N5 million in cash. Aside these goodies, the winner will be D’Banj’s companion at public events both within and outside Nigeria. She would further emerge as HITV’s Hi-Babe.
The organizers further explained that D’Banj would not be living with them but would be required to come in often to see the girls.”
“The show is not about D’Banj, but about the Kokolette”. Also speaking at the unveiling, the founder of HiTV, Mr. Toyin Subair in his remark said the concept of Koko Mansion was a brilliant idea coming from brilliant Nigerians.
HiTV, Subair said, hopes to use Koko Mansion to show all the virtues of a true African woman. “It is going to be the biggest reality show in this side of the world and that can only happen on the platform of HiTV. It is the mother of
all reality shows, Koko Mansion.”
Subair, an intellectual property lawyer, further assured that the show would
not in any form promote immorality or nudity as the case may
be.
